This weekend, July 18 and 19, marks the 2nd Annual Mile High Music Festival Food Drive. The drive is sponsored by the Mile High Music Festival and Conscious Alliance. The food drive is a featured event at the concert and looks to collect at least 10,000 pounds of food. The beneficiary is Food Bank of the Rockies, a Denver-based nonprofit organization that helps feed families in need. Last year’s drive raised a staggering 8,000 pounds of food, and this year organizers are expecting more donations and a bigger turnout. Similar to last year’s drive, Whole Foods will match all food donations collected at the festival.

The festival features performances from Tool, The Fray, Widespread Panic, Ben Harper & the Relentless 7, India.Arie, Guster and Causecast leaders Incubus. Not convinced you want to go, yet? Check out last year’s photos.

Food will be collected in tents near the entrance of the festival and if you donate 10 non-perishable items, you’ll be eligible to receive a limited edition poster. Conscious Alliance encourages organic food and food low in sodium. Show that you care and donate!

For those interested, volunteer applications are still being accepted. Volunteers who work a four-hour shift will receive a free festival t-shirt and admission for that day. There’s also an exciting carpool contest for the environmentally ambitious. The Carpool Sweepstakes require you to decorate your car with a “green” theme and carpool with four or more people. Don’t forget to pimp your ride!
