Given that we, as Americans, have been granted the gift of clean drinking water at the simple turn of a faucet, it may be hard to imagine that 1.1 billion people do not have this same luxury. To paint a picture of the enormity of that number, imagine one in six people, likely dozens or hundreds of your Facebook friends, without the option of clean drinking water.

Well, fortunately charity: water is one such organization that aims to bring a solution to this global crisis. They focus on providing things like freshwater wells to communities around the world that would otherwise have limited or worse, no access, to safe drinking water.

So, ready to get involved? Think you can provide clean water to a sixth of humanity? Sounds like a daunting task right? Luckily for you, charity: water has made it even easier for us, the individual, to make an impact. charity: water has recently upped their volunteerism by creating personal fundraising pages. Now you can create your own page, and email, text, or tweet all of your friends and family to donate to your cause. Ask your family to donate money instead of buying you those useless holiday-themed sweaters that end up lurking in the back of your closet. Follow the lead of celebrities like Virginia Madsen who are asking for donations instead of birthday presents this year! You can even create a following and raise money to climb Mt. Everest if that’s your thing. Whatever your niche or talent may be, use it and help the global community at the same time!
